A round disc of natural abalone shell set in a fine sterling silver frame, with a swirl worked into the centre of the shell. The surface shifts as the light moves, moving through warm peach, gold and soft green.
The frame is kept slim so the shell carries the piece, and it sits flat against the skin rather than standing away from it.
Abalone is a natural shell, so the colour, pattern and iridescence will vary from piece to piece and from the photograph.
Abalone shell has long been used in jewellery and inlay work, and its iridescence means no two pieces look the same. In folklore it is associated with the sea, protection and calm, a meaning carried in the symbolism rather than in any effect.
